EU admission on Russia-Ukraine war: 'It would end in 15 days, but Putin would achieve his goal'

Josep Borrell, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated that if Western countries were to withdraw their support for Kyiv, the war in Ukraine would end within 15 days, but Russian President Vladimir Putin would have achieved his objectives.

Borrell made assessments regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine to the Spanish news site "20minutos".

Stating that many people, including Ukrainians, want the war to end as soon as possible, Borrell said, "But what matters is how it ends. If we stop supporting Ukraine, the war will end in 15 days. But Putin will have achieved his goals."

'WE MUST DO EVERYTHING'

Explaining that such a situation would pose a risk to both Ukraine and European security, Borrell assessed, "We must do everything possible to ensure that when the time comes, negotiations can be held under conditions that respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Reflecting on his 5 years as EU High Representative, Borrell also offered a self-critique:

"This position is a tremendous lesson in humility because you see how difficult it is to solve the problems of humanity. You see how much intelligence and effort is spent in the face of human stupidity. If the work were evaluated by dedication, hours committed, and effort, I would probably deserve a high grade. But if it were to be evaluated by the results, they are far from what I had hoped for."
