Former ABB Mayor Melih Gökçek made highly discussed remarks regarding the Gezi Park process while appearing on the TYT Türk channel. Gökçek alleged that former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bülent Arınç, was being considered for the premiership at that time.

"You remember the Gezi protests; Bülent Arınç was becoming Prime Minister during that period. They were going to make him Prime Minister despite Erdoğan," said Gökçek, adding, "You know how he said 'the message has been received' and so on? He was expecting the premiership around those dates. He had an expectation. The man who ruined that plan was Melih Gökçek. Does he like Melih Gökçek?"

When asked, "Did Tayyip Bey have knowledge of this, or did it happen later?" Gökçek replied, "I don't know," and continued as follows:

"At that time, circles that were in contact with both Arınç and me came forward. There were FETÖ members who spoke with both of us. Didn't I use to talk to FETÖ members in the past? The Gezi protests were an event that took place before July 15. They said that Erdoğan's political life was over and that Arınç would be brought in as Prime Minister to replace him. If Arınç has a right of reply, let him speak and say it's not true."
