Explosive claim from Ümit Özdağ regarding the AKP: 'They are preparing for the post-Erdoğan era'

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ made striking claims regarding the AKP during his speech at the program organized for his party's 5th anniversary.

Özdağ criticized the judicial processes targeting the opposition in Turkey, stating that the government specifically uses charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility" and "spreading misleading information." Arguing that how these charges are determined and by whom is controversial, Özdağ also cited the case of Nasuh Mahruki as an example.

Touching upon his own judicial process, Özdağ stated that he contributed to calming the events related to Syrian refugees in Kayseri, yet despite this, he was detained by judicial authorities in Istanbul, referred for arrest, and received a sentence of two years and four months.

Özdağ claimed that the pressure on the opposition is also causing discomfort within the AKP, stating, "These unlawful, heavy pressures on the opposition are not considered right, let alone by the AKP base, even at the AKP Headquarters. I am saying this with knowledge."

Claiming that there is a decline in AKP's votes, Özdağ said the party is "divided into at least four major factions." Özdağ used the expression, "AKP officials are in a panic, making preparations for the post-Erdoğan era."

Stating that the economic crisis is deepening, Özdağ emphasized that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan cannot produce solutions for the economy. Özdağ also stated that a large portion of the AKP base opposes the topics of "PKK amnesty and constitutional amendment."
