Extraordinary CHP MYK meeting: New roadmap on the table

The increasing operations, investigation permits, and arrest warrants targeting CHP-run municipalities continue to keep the political agenda hot. Following these developments, the CHP leadership aims to establish a new roadmap at today's meeting to determine the moves to be made. The Central Executive Board (MYK), which CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will also attend, will meet in an extraordinary session in Istanbul. In addition to evaluating current actions, new steps for the struggle to be initiated in the coming days will also be on the meeting's agenda. Furthermore, Özgür Özel is planned to meet with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş in the coming days.

YAVAŞ'S REMARKS DREW ATTENTION

CHP Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş's statement, “We can no longer just watch these,” sparked discussions within the party regarding the possibility of mayors resigning en masse. However, Yavaş stated that his words were distorted. Within the CHP leadership, the prevailing view is that a mass resignation would not provide an advantage to the party and that such a step taken without a constitutional amendment would strengthen the hand of the current government.

Following the developments, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın made statements regarding his party's future steps. According to a report by Sözcü, Günaydın stated, “They are now turning to municipalities in Anatolia after Istanbul. Our struggle so far has not been able to protect the mayors. Attacks on our corporate identity continue. By assigning a certain number of deputies in Parliament, we will open up to Anatolia with all our staff. We will be in the field with our full organization. We will also evaluate what else can be done. No clear decision has been made yet. But this will not continue like this.”

CHP'S CALL FOR UNITY AND STRUGGLE

It was learned that during a meeting last week where CHP leader Özgür Özel met with provincial chairmen, he instructed party members to be prepared for attacks that may come from both inside and outside. Emphasizing the importance of acting in unity at the meeting, it was stated that Özel said, “We will give our lives, but we will not bow our heads.” The CHP Chairman also gave a message of determination with the words, “I do not expect absolute nullity. This is constantly being voiced. However, if something like what happened in Istanbul occurs, we will do exactly what we did there. We will continue to remain at our posts. We will give our lives, but we will not bow our heads.”
