Faik Öztrak calls for action on the fund crisis: An investigation commission must be established as soon as Parliament opens; where is the 128 billion dollars?

CHP Group Chairman Faik Öztrak, one of the figures appointed to the administration following the court's "absolute nullity" ruling, met with journalists in Parliament to evaluate the fund crisis. Öztrak stated that the issue must be addressed comprehensively in the legislature.

Öztrak noted that a proposal to establish an investigation commission should be brought to the agenda on the very first day Parliament opens, stating, "Everything started in 2021 when we asked the question, 'Where is the 128 billion dollars?' A process that began that year lies behind most of the players involved today. The Palace must first account for this. Otherwise, it is impossible to establish an environment of trust," he said.

Öztrak was accompanied at the meeting by group deputy chairmen Rahmi Aşkın Türeli and Serkan Sarı, Karabük MP Cevdet Akay, and Istanbul MP Enis Berberoğlu. The CHP members emphasized that oversight mechanisms and political responsibility regarding the fund crisis must be debated.

EMPHASIS ON THE CMB AND POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITY

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Rahmi Aşkın Türeli argued that the crisis cannot be blamed solely on the Capital Markets Board (CMB). Pointing out that the board's executives are appointed by the President and noting the institution's relationship with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Türeli said they would submit legislative proposals on openness, transparency, and political ethics in the new legislative year.

Group Deputy Chairman Serkan Sarı directed questions at the government regarding AKP member Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, whose name has been mentioned in the fund crisis. Reminding that investigations into municipalities have reached the close circles of individuals, Sarı asked why a similar approach is not being applied to the government's inner circle.

Karabük MP Cevdet Akay also stated that he had met with victims of the fund crisis, expressing that the crisis has affected a large number of citizens. Akay explained that people who had invested their severance pay or those with health issues had lost their money.

Akay argued that while the CMB has established a working group, it is unknown what this group is doing, and reminded that the Minister of Treasury and Finance, as well as the heads of the CMB and the BRSA, will come to Parliament during the budget period. "These must be accounted for. We will follow this matter," he said.

During the meeting, a question was also asked about whether any polls were being conducted regarding CHP's vote share. Öztrak stated that they were not conducting polls at this stage, expressing that the nation would support the CHP when the election process begins.
