Fatih Erbakan offers conditional support for 'new constitution' call
New Welfare Party Chairman Erbakan attended the opening of his party's provincial building in Konya, where he spoke about the 'new constitution'.

Stating that meetings with tradespeople and the public would be held in the city as part of local election preparations, Erbakan expressed that their goal is to achieve even greater success in the local elections to be held on March 31 than they did in the general elections.
Expressing that the New Welfare Party is Turkey's shining star, growing power, and one of the most important actors in politics, Erbakan said, "The local elections will be an important rehearsal in terms of demonstrating that we are also the favorite party and the candidate for government in the 2028 elections. In this regard, we have already started our election-oriented work with our provincial, district, and town organizations in a state of alert."
"WE NEED TO SEE AND EXAMINE IT"
When asked by a journalist about his thoughts on the new constitution call made by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Erbakan spoke as follows:
"We need to see and examine what kind of constitutional amendment is being considered, but as we have always said whenever this issue has come up before, a constitution that is a product of a coup has become a patchwork, having been repeatedly tried to be corrected from the right and left, so to speak, but it has reached a point where it no longer meets the needs.
Instead of saying 'Let's fix it, let's retouch it again,' starting from a clean slate and drafting a new, civil, domestic, and national constitution that prioritizes rights, is fair, does not discriminate, establishes justice in distribution, administration, and the judiciary, and is suitable for the goal of a 'Great Turkey' again and for Turkey to be a livable country, is of course positive for us as well.
We have expressed this before. Of course, we will express our final word once the government's thoughts and preparations on this matter are examined by our authorized boards and experts.
If it is possible to put forward a draft of a civil constitution that will meet the needs and establish justice, a constitution that will respond to Turkey's requirements, we would of course gladly support it."
