First assessment from the New Party following Mansur Yavaş's resignation from the CHP

The first statement from the New Party has arrived following the resignation of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş from the CHP. New Party Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir responded to a question regarding Yavaş during a press conference he held at the Parliament.

Emir stated that Yavaş's decision was his own discretion, saying, "Mr. Mansur Yavaş is a mayor who stands out not only to us, but in my opinion, to all 86 million people, with his services, honesty, and populist municipalism, and of whom we are proud. It is his own discretion; if he feels the need to make a further statement, he will do so himself."

EMİR CRITICIZES MARKET INVESTIGATIONS

During the press conference, Emir also touched upon investigations into certain transactions in the capital markets, criticizing developments regarding the suspension of trading for investment funds managed by portfolio management firms and the liquidation of some investment funds. Arguing that necessary precautions were not taken in time, Emir claimed that the burden of the outcome would be attempted to be placed on the public.

Stating that the investigations are being conducted under the scope of "market fraud," Emir claimed this was insufficient. "Market fraud is a relatively minor crime with a penalty of 3 to 5 years. However, there is an organized, systematic crime here," he said.

Recalling that images of individuals detained in past investigations had been reflected in the public eye, Emir criticized the fact that such images were not shared in the investigations related to capital market transactions. He argued that this situation creates a double standard regarding the approach to the presumption of innocence.

The election of the Deputy Mayor in the Adalar Municipal Council was also on the agenda at the meeting. Emir described the victory of AK Party candidate Kemal Türkyılmaz in the election as "political pickpocketing."

Emir was also asked about US President Donald Trump's praise for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Stating that Trump uses similar expressions for many leaders, Emir said that the issues that should actually be evaluated from Turkey's perspective are the F-35 program, F-16 modernization, and CAATSA sanctions.
