First Cabinet Meeting of 2024 today: Additional pension hike to be discussed

Millions of retirees waiting for a raise in their salaries have turned their eyes and ears to the Cabinet Meeting.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will chair the Cabinet Meeting at the Palace today. Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan and Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek are expected to make a presentation at the meeting.

PENSION HIKE STATEMENT FROM AKP

Speaking in Parliament, AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler said regarding the pension hike, "I do not have the opportunity to give a rate; it will be clarified in the Cabinet."

YILMAZ: WE WILL NOT LET THEM BE CRUSHED BY INFLATION

Meeting with journalists on Friday, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz made statements regarding the pension hike. Yılmaz said, "We have not moved away from our principle of not letting retirees be crushed by inflation, and we are making every effort." Yılmaz stated that they would evaluate the beginning of the year and July together in the regulation to be made.

FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

Another agenda item for the Cabinet will be the fight against terrorism.

Following the attack in which 9 soldiers were martyred, the ongoing operations in northern Iraq and Syria, air operations, and the MIT's operations in the field will be analyzed.

New steps to be taken in the fight against the terrorist organization will be discussed.

TEACHERS ALSO HAVE THEIR EYES ON THE CABINET

Thousands of teachers will also have their eyes and ears on the cabinet. It is expected that the number of teachers to be appointed will be decided in the cabinet.

SWEDEN'S NATO MEMBERSHIP PROCESS

The protocol accepted by the Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee regarding Sweden's NATO membership process and the General Assembly process are also expected to be discussed in the Cabinet.

Following the Cabinet meeting, Erdoğan will appear before the cameras and make statements regarding the decisions taken at the meeting.
