The İYİ Party, which decided to enter the local elections independently, did not achieve the results it expected on March 31.
Experiencing a significant decline in its vote share compared to the May elections, the İYİ Party received 3.77 percent of the vote in the March 31 Local Elections, becoming the 6th largest party across Turkey.
Following the results, as news of resignations arrived one after another, İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener was also invited to resign.
Following the calls for resignation, Akşener decided to hold an extraordinary convention, and the first candidate for general chair in the İYİ Party has been announced.
İYİ Party Founders' Board Member Günay Kodaz announced on social media that she is a candidate for the general chairmanship.
The statement in which Kodaz announced her candidacy is as follows:
"Ms. Akşener has announced that our İYİ Party has decided to hold an extraordinary convention. I respectfully share with the public that I am a candidate for the İYİ Party general chairmanship at our extraordinary convention, which has been announced to be held."
Kodaz had called for the resignation of İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener and party executives after the local elections, stating that the İYİ Party should go to an extraordinary congress.
On the other hand, prominent figures of the party, İYİ Party Organization Chair and Istanbul Deputy Buğra Kavuncu and İYİ Party Local Governments Chair and Istanbul Deputy Burak Akburak, had resigned from their posts.
Kavuncu had been nominated for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayoralty in the local elections.
