First comment from DEM Party following the statement by the terrorist organization PKK: 'Parliament must take responsibility'

DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit stated that the terrorist organization PKK's declaration of a 'ceasefire' in response to Abdullah Öcalan's call is an important and gratifying development. Koçyiğit argued that the ceasefire being unilateral and the PKK's statement that they will not engage in any actions other than active combat is a promising sign for the rapid progress of the process.

Connecting to the Hafta Sonu Sabah program hosted by Selin Sabit on Halk TV, DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit said the following regarding the issue:

"The fact that they have declared a ceasefire, a unilateral ceasefire, and have again expressed to the public that they will not do anything other than active combat or legitimate defense is a clear and explicit indication that they will quickly put this step into practice. In this sense, it is quite gratifying.

There were some concerns, question marks, and occasionally different discussions about whether the PKK would listen to Öcalan. I honestly think this statement is very important in terms of putting an end to these discussions. Because they are saying that they are ready to do whatever is necessary, and they also have determinations regarding the execution of this process, stating that Mr. Öcalan should personally take responsibility for his communication, convening the congress, and the dissolution of the organization, and that he should lead this process.

This points to the issue of isolation that we have been talking about and debating, or the issue of creating conditions for the process to proceed, such as health, security, and freedom conditions. These are, frankly, the messages I see and find important from the call at first glance."

''PARLIAMENT MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY''

Stating that they are waiting for steps to be taken, Koçyiğit noted the following:

"When such major historical steps are taken and such major historical calls are made, it is of course not expected that these will remain unreciprocated. Because even though this call essentially includes the disarmament and dissolution of the PKK, it also says something else. It is also a call for the democratization of the state, for the state to become sensitive to democracy, and for the state to establish a democratic system that includes all peoples, all faiths, and all identities living in the country, that is, the construction of a democratic republic. It is necessary to obtain the consent of society and all Turkish peoples, to observe their sensitivities, and to carry out this work with the consent of society. In this sense, we attach great importance to this. The other is the establishment of a mechanism where all political parties can truly contribute to this process. No one should feel left out of this process. A mechanism must be established quickly where everyone can feel this process as their own process, this peace as their own peace, and this solution as their own solution, and where they can have their say and make their suggestions. This places a responsibility on Parliament. Parliament must take steps quickly and take responsibility in this regard."

WHAT HAPPENED?

PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, to whom MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had called to "end terrorist acts and dissolve," made the long-awaited call, announcing that the PKK should dissolve itself and all groups should lay down their arms. In his call, Öcalan stated, "In this climate created by the call made by Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, the will put forward by the President, and the positive approaches of other political parties toward the aforementioned call, I am making a call to lay down arms and I am assuming the historical responsibility of this call." The terrorist leader Öcalan had said, "Convene your congress and make a decision for integration with the state and society."
