Following a critical Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting held under the leadership of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, party spokesperson Zeynel Emre issued serious warnings, arguing that the current MYK lacks a legal basis. Emre leveled harsh criticisms at the AKP, stating that plans to shut down the party are being brought to the agenda.

The Republican People's Party (CHP) held a Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey under the chairmanship of Özgür Özel. Following the meeting, Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre made a statement evaluating recent developments concerning the CHP.
In his statement after the MYK meeting, Zeynel Emre drew attention to recent legal debates within the party and the stance of the AKP wing. Emre emphasized an extraordinary convention, stating, "For this reason, it is unlawful for the current MYK to serve. The AKP judiciary is planning to shut down our ancestral home."
The following points stood out in Emre's statements:
"While the CHP became the country's leading party in the last elections, we have been facing various judicial attempts since the election. We observe that the Justice and Development Party, in particular, is setting a major trap for our party through the judiciary. Today, we would like to state that President Erdoğan's words, 'we are not involved in this,' do not reflect the truth.
In the face of this situation, we want to collect signatures from our convention delegates for an extraordinary convention to take our party to a convention immediately. It is being said that there is an injunction and a convention cannot be held. When there was an injunction in Istanbul, the Supreme Election Council (YSK) granted permission and the election was held. No court can ever abolish a charter and delegates. According to our charter, a new MYK appointment can only be made by a decision of the Party Assembly. The CHP is obliged to implement its most recent charter; therefore, it is unlawful for the current MYK to serve.
'THE AKP JUDICIARY IS PLANNING A SHUTDOWN'
The AKP judiciary is planning to shut down our ancestral home. Political parties are governed according to the constitution, the Law on Political Parties, and their charters prepared in accordance with it. The illegality of this court decision is very clear. Holding a convention by July 25, 2026, is a matter of existence or non-existence for the CHP. Everyone should avoid an action that will cause the complete ruin of our party; this is not a risk that can be taken.'
