CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was physically attacked following a commemoration event held at the Atatürk Cultural Center for Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Sırrı Süreyya Önder. Following the attack, a statement came from AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik.
In a post on his social media account following the attack, Ömer Çelik used the following expressions:
"We condemn the attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. We convey our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mr. Özel. No attack on the political institution is acceptable. The attacker will be held accountable before the law."
