First reaction from CHP to the investigation against Özgür Özel

A strong message of support has come from the CHP against the investigation launched into CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into CHP Chairman Özgür Özel due to his remarks regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek during his speech at the 'Defending the National Will' event held in Gaziosmanpaşa.

In his speech, Özel also directed harsh criticisms at President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and characterized the investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) as a 'setup'.

Following these developments, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik stated in a post on social media that the party stands behind Özgür Özel.

Çelik stated, "Every member of the Republican People's Party, Turkey's leading party, is ready to stand tall by our Chairman Özgür Özel against any kind of investigation or attack. We are not afraid! We will not back down! We are determined!"
