The statement made by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç via his social media account is as follows:
Within the scope of the investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, decisions regarding detention, judicial control, and release have been issued by the Duty Magistrate Judge for some suspects, including the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, in relation to the alleged crimes.
Judicial processes in our legal system proceed in a manner open to oversight, and the relevant investigations are still ongoing.
Judges are bound by the scope of the file when making decisions in the investigations and prosecutions they oversee; they reach a legal conclusion in line with the claims, defense, and evidence regarding the alleged charges.
In this context, characterizing the ongoing judicial investigation as a “political investigation” is incorrect, and dragging legal assessments into the political arena may cause false perceptions in the public eye and also constitutes a violation of the principle of the Rule of Law.
As a requirement of the principle of the Rule of Law and trust in the judiciary, the completion of the process in all its aspects should be awaited, and comments and evaluations should be handled with a moderate approach within this framework.
It should not be forgotten that justice is served only by independent and impartial judicial authorities that make decisions on behalf of the Turkish nation.
For this reason, it should not be forgotten that everyone, especially those in positions of responsibility, must act more carefully, diligently, and with a sense of responsibility in their statements, and should avoid declarations that could lead to misunderstandings in society.
