Mehmet Türkmen was nominated to replace Rıdvan Karakayalı, who served two terms as mayor of İzmir's Kemalpaşa district. Following this development, it was claimed that because Karakayalı was not nominated again, he would resign from the CHP, join the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), and run as a candidate.
WILL RIDVAN KARAKAYALI BE A TİP CANDIDATE?
Kemalpaşa Mayor Rıdvan Karakayalı spoke about these claims regarding himself.
In his statement to the public, Karakayalı said: “This morning, reports that do not align with the facts were circulated in the press. These reports are absolutely untrue. I have not had any meetings with the Workers' Party of Turkey; I am a member of the Republican People's Party and I will remain so until the end. I will continue to perform the duty given to us by the people of Kemalpaşa in the best way possible until the election process.”
A statement was made by the CHP Kemalpaşa District Presidency regarding the matter, and the claims were denied: “The reports published today on some news websites claiming that our Kemalpaşa Mayor Rıdvan Karakayalı will resign from our party and run as a candidate for the Workers' Party of Turkey are intentional and malicious. Our Mayor has declared on his own social media accounts that he has absolutely no such intention, and that he will act and work under the roof of the Republican People's Party. We kindly ask that such baseless and intentional reports made during the election period be disregarded.”
