As Turkey heads toward the local elections on March 31, 2024, political parties are gradually announcing their mayoral candidates.
AKP TO ANNOUNCE CANDIDATES FOR 28 CITIES
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had announced that he would reveal the Istanbul candidate on January 7. Erdoğan is expected to announce the mayoral candidates for 12 metropolitan municipalities and 16 provinces at the candidate introduction meeting he will hold tomorrow at the Haliç Congress Center.
Among the metropolitan municipalities expected to be announced are cities such as Eskişehir, Kocaeli, Mardin, Bursa, and Muğla.
While all eyes in politics are turned to January 7, posts began to be shared on social media by AKP figures in Eskişehir last night with the slogan 'It will suit Eskişehir very well' (Eskişehir'e çok yakışacAK). It was suggested that these posts were made for the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate, Nebi Hatipoğlu.
ESKİŞEHİR CLAIM FOR NEBİ HATİPOĞLU
According to the report by Gazete Duvar, AKP sources stated that Erdoğan will announce the metropolitan mayoral candidates for 28 provinces tomorrow, and that Eskişehir is among them. It was claimed that the AKP's metropolitan mayoral candidate will be Eskişehir Deputy Nebi Hatipoğlu, who resigned from the IYI Party and joined the AKP.
HE HAD SAID "I EXPERIENCED DEEP DISAGREEMENTS"
Hatipoğlu had resigned from the IYI Party last November.
In the post where he announced his resignation, Hatipoğlu included the following statements:
"To the attention of the Great Turkish Nation; in my political journey, which I embarked upon as a person who loves Turkey and Eskişehir, I have been experiencing deep disagreements with the IYI Party, from which I was elected as an Eskişehir Deputy, since the General Election process. Due to the fact that our intra-party consultation process has not been functioning healthily, I am resigning from the IYI Party, having also informed our Chairman, Ms. Meral Akşener."
"I DO NOT GET OFF THE VEHICLE I BOARD"
Participating in a live broadcast on a local television station in Eskişehir before the May 2023 elections, Nebi Hatipoğlu was asked, 'If the IYI Party remains in opposition after the election and the AKP remains in power, would you switch to the AKP?' He had responded by saying, "Of course I would not. What business would I have there? There are two types of politicians in Turkey. One is those who do politics as a business, and the second is those who do politics as a service. We will do politics as a service. We will not do it as a line of business. As an individual, I do not get off the vehicle I board, that is."
