Flash move from DEM Party against the trustee!

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan held a press conference at her party's headquarters.

Doğan announced that they will hold a rally against the trustee in Hakkari on June 13.

Doğan said, "We have been saying this for years; this is not the first time we have encountered the trustee practice. This is the third term it has been implemented, and they are not giving it up. They are saying, 'You can be a candidate, but you cannot serve as mayor.' We are faced with a definition of the judiciary that takes positions according to power, according to the government. The judiciary is not just becoming politicized; the judiciary is now making decisions in favor of a single political party."

She criticized the legal process regarding the trial of DEM Party Co-Mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış, who was removed from office and arrested, by emphasizing that the case was accelerated after the March 31 elections and that the trial was held 13 days after the elections.

Highlights from Doğan's speech are as follows:

"For days, the people of Hakkari have been keeping watch to protect their will. The front of the municipality is under a military-police blockade due to the appointed governor. If the people of Hakkari wanted to be governed by a trustee, there would be no need to attempt to protect the appointed trustee from the people. If municipalities truly belong to the people, and you need soldiers to protect them from the places they belong to, it means that the people there are being governed by those who force them to pay a price for the candidates they voted for.

This should be the beginning of the end for the trustee regime rather than a beginning. If we don't call this a political coup, what should we call it? It is an open coup against democracy, law, and justice. The trustee is evil, it is a denial. As the DEM Party, we call on all citizens to raise their voices and object together to put an end to the final struggles of the trustee regime.

CALL FOR A RALLY

Sıddık Akış's only crime is being an elected Kurd. Hakkari must be the last; the appointed trustee must be returned to its rightful owner immediately. We must support the will of the people of Hakkari. Therefore, as the DEM Party, we are continuing our vigils for justice and respect for the will. We are meeting in Hakkari on June 13. We call on all citizens who feel responsible to the grand rally to be held in the center of Hakkari at 3 PM.

If we do not all say no together to this trustee practice applied to cities where Kurds live predominantly, who is to say it won't be appointed to Istanbul tomorrow? We call on the authorities to respect both.

We know that the trustee regime has gone bankrupt. We know that these are the final struggles."
