Forgot he is a trustee: Video of him promoting himself on social media goes viral

Esenyurt's elected Mayor Ahmet Özer was detained in October 2024 and arrested on October 30 as part of an investigation into the 'City Consensus' (Kent Uzlaşısı). Although Özer was released a few months ago in connection with that investigation, he remained in prison due to a separate investigation involving the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB).

MHP LEADER BAHÇELİ'S CALL FOR RELEASE

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had called for an end to Ahmet Özer's detention, citing his past work during the Imrali Process. However, the AKP government did not respond to Bahçeli's call, and Özer remained in custody.

TRUSTEE TAKES ACTION

On the anniversary of Ahmet Özer's arrest, while CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was holding a rally, Esenyurt trustee Can Aksoy also took action. However, the trustee drew attention by forgetting his identity as a civil servant and acting like a mayor, even having a PR video produced.

PR VIDEO SHARED

Esenyurt Trustee Can Aksoy shared a PR video on his social media account, decorated with music and transition effects. In the video, the trustee described the work he has done in Esenyurt, presenting himself as if he were an elected mayor. This type of promotion was considered an unusual practice for a trustee serving as a civil servant.

Esenyurt trustee Can Aksoy stated the following:

We have completed our 1st year since being appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Esenyurt. Welcome to our 'A Year Full of Projects in Esenyurt' program, which covers our 1-year journey.

As we all know, Esenyurt is a very valuable city. We produce technology, we produce industry. It is a labor city that alone produces 6.7 percent of Turkey's industrial production.

It is a city with the highest density, with a registered population of 1 million. With its 240 thousand young people, it is the insurance of our future. Esenyurt is all of us. We planned our work in 3 models. We were going to complete the idle projects that had been left unfinished for years.

We were going to implement projects that would add value to Esenyurt. By working in cooperation with our Governorship and our ministries, we were going to bring central budget investments to our city through the projects it needs. Dear guests, we achieved these developments with the sweat of our brow alongside our colleagues. The success belongs to our entire team; any shortcomings and mistakes belong to me.

We are children of Anatolia. We are excited children of the homeland. When our state gives an order, we run and come. We do not hide our labor, we do not shy away from sacrifice. We are at the service of our people under the command of the truth.

We would like to thank our President, who has always given strong support to us and our Esenyurt in all these projects and works.
