Former AKP deputy Halil Özcan has passed away

Former AKP Şanlıurfa deputy Halil Özcan, who had been receiving treatment in Ankara for kidney failure for some time, has passed away.

Former AKP Şanlıurfa deputy Halil Özcan has passed away.

Özcan's funeral will be held in Şanlıurfa tomorrow following a ceremony at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Özcan had been receiving treatment in Ankara for some time due to kidney failure. 

ERDOĞAN HAD VISITED HIM

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had visited Özcan in the hospital last week.

CONDOLENCE MESSAGES FROM KURTULMUŞ AND TUNÇ

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş published a message of condolence for the late former AKP Şanlıurfa deputy Halil Özcan.

In a post on his social media account, Kurtulmuş stated, "I pray for God's mercy upon our former Şanlıurfa deputy Halil Özcan, and I extend my condolences to his family, relatives, and loved ones. May he rest in peace."

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also stated in a message published on his social media account that he learned of Halil Özcan's passing at the hospital where he was receiving treatment with great sadness, saying, "I pray for God's mercy upon our late deputy, and I extend my condolences to his family and all his loved ones. May he rest in peace."

WHO IS HALİL ÖZCAN?

Born in Şanlıurfa in 1964, Özcan graduated from the Department of Islamic Sciences at the Faculty of Education of King Saud University in Saudi Arabia.

Having completed his master's degree in Tafsir at the Harran University Faculty of Theology and his doctorate in Arabic Language and Literature at the Atatürk University Institute of Social Sciences, Özcan served as an assistant professor in the Department of Eastern Languages at the Harran University Faculty of Science and Letters.

Özcan, who carried out many cultural projects through national and international NGO work, was elected as a deputy for Şanlıurfa in the 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th legislative terms.

Starting from the 24th term, Özcan served as the President of the Turkey-Saudi Arabia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Özcan, who spoke very good Arabic and intermediate English, was married and a father of 6 children.
