Former Minister of Health Halil Şıvgın has passed away

Former Minister of Health Halil Şıvgın, who had been receiving treatment at Başkent University Hospital for some time, has passed away at the age of 75.

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu stated in a post on social media that he received the news of Halil Şıvgın's death with deep sorrow. In his message, Dervişoğlu expressed that Şıvgın left a mark with his service to our nation and extended his condolences to his family.

Born in Ankara in 1950, Halil Şıvgın began working as a freelance lawyer after graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Law. He was among the founding members of the Motherland Party (ANAP) in the early 1980s and served as an Ankara deputy in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for three terms. He served as the Minister of Health and Social Assistance between 1987 and 1991, and subsequently as the Minister of Health.

Having also held positions such as member of the Central Executive Board and Deputy Group Chairman in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Şıvgın became the True Path Party's (DYP) candidate for Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in the 1999 local elections, but was not elected.
