Framework law proposal comes to the TBMM General Assembly agenda on the anniversary of the Treaty of Sèvres

The Bill on the Strengthening of National Solidarity and Social Integration, referred to as the "Framework Law," is expected to come to the agenda of the TBMM General Assembly on August 10, the 106th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Sèvres.

Following the work the Parliament has been conducting since July 1, the proposal stands out as one of the final agenda items of the legislative year. It is anticipated that the TBMM will enter recess once the General Assembly deliberations on the regulation are completed.

In addition to the content of the proposal, the fact that the deliberation schedule coincides with the anniversary of the Treaty of Sèvres has caused political controversy. İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu reacted to the schedule in a post on his social media account.

What is the source of your insistence on forcing the Parliament to work outside its usual schedule to rush this specific law to August 10, the anniversary of Sèvres? To whom are you sending a message? Do you think this nation has fallen into a death sleep?

The Treaty of Sèvres was signed between the Allied Powers and the Ottoman government on August 10, 1920, following the First World War. The 433-article treaty, which contained harsh provisions regarding the partition of Ottoman lands, was officially nullified by the Treaty of Lausanne, signed on July 24, 1923.
