CHP Ankara Deputy Murat Emir has shared with the public his party's proposed 29-point democratization package. The package will be presented to the delegation at the third meeting of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission.
A CLEAR MESSAGE ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL DEBATE
The CHP emphasized that a new constitution cannot be drafted under current conditions, arguing that the incumbent government has suspended the Constitution. The party stated that the rule of law must be ensured and democratic standards must be raised.
DEMAND FOR RELEASE OF GEZI PRISONERS
Among the prominent points of the package is the immediate release of those imprisoned in the Gezi Park case, in accordance with the rulings of the Constitutional Court (AYM) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND SOCIAL PEACE
The CHP noted that freedom of expression is a fundamental condition for building social peace and that current oppressive practices must come to an end.
TRUSTEES MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY
The package highlights the demand for the removal of trustees appointed to municipalities and the reinstatement of elected local officials.
