Following the arrest of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, the Republican People's Party (CHP) leadership began preparing a roadmap. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced that he would present his party's roadmap last Tuesday, but the statement was postponed due to the fire in Kartalkaya.

ANNOUNCEMENT POSTPONED DUE TO FIRE

Statements from the ruling party claiming that the CHP-run Bolu Municipality was responsible for the fire, the reopening of files related to the Gezi Protests from 10 years ago, and the investigation into the Beşiktaş Municipality have strengthened the view within the party that all these moves by the government are part of a plan targeting the entire opposition, especially the CHP.

WILL THE ROADMAP BE ANNOUNCED ON TUESDAY?

There is curiosity about whether CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will announce the roadmap he postponed due to the Kartalkaya fire during his parliamentary group meeting next Tuesday. It is expected that in his meeting on Tuesday, Özel will provide clues about the roadmap they will follow in the coming period, particularly regarding the stance to be taken against the government's moves targeting CHP-run municipalities.

WILL A CANDIDATE BE ANNOUNCED?

One of the CHP's meetings was the meeting of CHP provincial chairs. In this meeting, it was assessed that the government possesses an unbalanced amount of power and that a balance of power must be established between the opposition and the government. To ensure this balance of power, a proposal was made to quickly implement candidate determination methods and to identify the presidential candidate as soon as possible.

It was commented that clarifying the candidate during this process would disrupt the power imbalance between the government and the opposition and provide public protection against attacks and slanders directed at the announced candidate.

There were also those at the meeting who opposed this proposal. Some provincial chairs stated that determining and announcing a candidate when the election date is not even set yet would be a wrong strategy.

Those who believe it is not right to announce a candidate today also recalled that the AKP has a desire and effort for constitutional change, assessing that "Even the system could change. It is not even clear under what kind of system we will elect a president. We do not know the AKP's intentions, and theoretically, they have many options on the table. It is not logical to determine a candidate in an environment where everything could change."

CHP LEADERSHIP PREPARING FOR ROADMAP

It has been learned that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and the party leadership are continuing their preparations regarding the CHP's roadmap. It was stated that important clues regarding the roadmap are expected to be given at the group meeting on Tuesday.

The statement in question is also expected to include assessments regarding the method and calendar for determining the CHP's presidential candidate.
