A new topic of debate has been brought to the political agenda by the statements of Devlet Bahçeli. While Bahçeli's remarks regarding "status" and "coordination" for PKK leader Öcalan were supported by the DEM Party, the silence of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the AKP front on the matter has drawn attention.
"WE SIGN OFF ON IT" MESSAGE FROM DEM PARTY
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan stated regarding Bahçeli's remarks, "We sign off on this framework; let us write history together." The political effects and potential consequences of this statement were evaluated on the program.
ERDOĞAN'S SILENCE ON THE AGENDA
The fact that President Erdoğan has not made any assessment following Bahçeli's statements has become a subject of debate in Ankara's political circles. No notable statement on the matter has been made by the AKP side either.
TWO POSSIBILITIES IN ANKARA'S POLITICAL CIRCLES
Aslı Kurtuluş Mutlu from Sözcü TV shared insider information regarding the background of the process in her assessment. Mutlu stated that the developments are being evaluated based on two different possibilities.
According to Mutlu, at a reception held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) in recent weeks, Bahçeli went to his seat without making contact with DEM Party members, while Erdoğan went to the DEM Party table and used the phrase, "No stopping, keep going."
It was stated that during this process, the DEM Party assessed that there was a "deadlock," and Erdoğan devoted significant space to the topic of a "Terror-free Turkey" in his group meeting. It was reported that a summit subsequently took place at Beştepe, and following these developments, Bahçeli expanded his rhetoric.
Mutlu said that the questions of "Did Bahçeli fail to get what he wanted in his meeting with Erdoğan and therefore shift gears, or was Bahçeli voicing the process that the alliance is carrying out together from the podium?" are on the agenda.
"GEARS HAVE SHIFTED" ASSESSMENT
On the program, it was stated that Bahçeli's "coordination" move has carried the process to a more advanced point. It was emphasized that the message from the DEM Party front, "We sign off on Bahçeli's statements, we are on the same line," is also noteworthy.
Bakırhan's remarks, such as "Are those who boast of moving ships over land unable to pass the law of peace through Parliament today? Are those who appoint trustees unable to withdraw the trustees?" were also included.
According to the assessments made on the program, the ruling party's expectation regarding the process is for the laying down of arms, and at this point, reports from the field by the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) are being awaited.
