The term "founding leader" used by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli regarding Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the PKK terrorist organization, had caused a stir in public opinion.
Bahçeli's advisor Yıldıray Çiçek defended the remarks that became the focus of reactions. Çiçek said, "Trying to associate this sentence with a description made through Abdullah Öcalan, the founder of the PKK terrorist organization, is either a serious reading problem or the product of someone who has lost their mental balance."
"THIS IS NOT A SEARCH FOR LEGITIMACY"
Emphasizing that the expression in question points to an "internal confrontation within the organization," Çiçek stated that it does not aim to legitimize this characterization of Öcalan. He used the following expressions in his writing:
"Abdullah Öcalan is the founder of the PKK terrorist organization and the separatist activities it carries out. This expression is a determination pointing to the confrontation within the organization. There is neither praise nor a search for legitimacy here."
"ISN'T ÖCALAN THE FOUNDER OF THE PKK?"
MHP member Yıldıray Çiçek openly stated that Öcalan is the founder of the PKK and argued that such concepts are technical terms used in the fight against terrorism. He clarified his words by saying, "This issue is a skillfully used technical direction that will be evaluated through concepts, adjectives, and the hierarchical structure used in the field of terrorism."
