Behind the scenes: Early election move from CHP! There will be MP resignations: How would a by-election work?

The Republican People's Party (CHP) is working intensively on a new strategy regarding early elections.

According to journalist Hilal Köylü, the CHP, which has 135 deputies and is represented in 55 cities, aims to ensure that by-elections are held in vacant districts by having its deputies resign in a situation where the government does not make an election decision.

In this context, it is planned to trigger the election process based on the number of seats vacated in Parliament through the resignation of 20 deputies from the party. The CHP leadership believes that this strategy could be a move that provides not only a technical but also a psychological advantage.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL'S CALL FOR THE BALLOT BOX WILL BE EXPANDED

It is stated that the call made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel to President Erdoğan recently, saying, "Since we are the leading party, let's put the ballot box out," is also part of this strategy.

Hilal Köylü reported that this call will be expanded further in the corridors of power and that the CHP is preparing for a strong early election campaign in the field.

HOW WOULD A BY-ELECTION BE POSSIBLE?

Köylü reminded that according to the Constitution, by-elections can be held for vacant parliamentary seats after 30 months have passed since a general election.

Resignations made after 30 months have passed since the May 14, 2023 elections could make it possible to set up ballot boxes again in the relevant regions. The CHP will take advantage of this opportunity to give the public the message, "Use the vote that is your right again."

However, the government front argues that it is not easy for this plan to be implemented. Stating that even if deputies resign, these resignations must be approved by the General Assembly of Parliament, government sources express the view, "We have the majority in Parliament. We will not approve it, we will not let the CHP hold an election."
