Nefes columnist Nuray Babacan, in her article detailing what is being discussed in AKP circles following the operation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, stated, "If you exclude the government's media personnel and trolls, no one interprets the operations in terms of 'corruption.' AKP members have wild questions in their minds about what comes next."

Suggesting that AKP members are asking, "Did we shoot ourselves in the foot?", Babacan noted that some are saying, "At this rate, we will become like either Azerbaijan or Turkmenistan."

According to Babacan, comments regarding Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek include: "The man has become sick to his stomach during this process. Everything he has been doing for a long time was turned upside down by the March 19 operation. He is trying to rebuild the collapsed economic program by finding new resources, first in Brussels and now in the US."

In her article titled "Are we becoming Turkmenistan?", Nuray Babacan wrote the following:

"We have brought here the analyses of various figures who are still active in the party, who were active in the past, and who are still listened to and capable of producing ideas regarding the March 19 'coup' and its aftermath. These assessments regarding the results and what President Tayyip Erdoğan's plan is are quite interesting;

- 'It appears that 40 percent of the voters who voted for the AKP chose us due to a lack of alternatives. Now, this segment has also started to abandon us. There is no longer any administrator who objects to the mistakes made. Consultation has disappeared. The Presidential Government System has made the President unreachable. Even his dialogue with his own deputies has been severed. Whoever manipulates him wins.'

- 'We saw this day coming. We saw that the country's management approach had changed and diverged despite objections. Everything changed, especially after the Presidential Government System. The party management is no longer the decision-maker. It had been heading in that direction for a long time. At this rate, we will become like either Azerbaijan or Turkmenistan.'

- 'There are friends asking, "Did we shoot ourselves in the foot?" They are making suspicious analyses regarding the timing of the İmamoğlu investigation and operation. The pieces do not fit together. Everyone is asking, "Why was it allowed to proceed even while the blow it would deal to the economy was visible?"'
