WHAT HAPPENED?

DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who suffered a heart attack and an aortic dissection, continues to be kept in intensive care following his surgery.

Following the written statement, Sırrı Süreyya Önder's doctors made statements in front of the cameras. His doctors once again underscored that his health condition is critical.

''WE HAVE REACHED ANOTHER BREAKING POINT''

Prof. Dr. Çavlan Çiftçi stated, “From a neurological perspective, the current picture has begun to deteriorate. For this reason, we have reached another breaking point. Our patient's neurological reflexes related to the brain have diminished, and the cerebral edema continues. He has cerebral blood flow, and all these findings indicate that his life-threatening condition is gradually increasing. However, we will patiently continue all our treatments and wait patiently. We ask for your patience as well.”

One of Önder's doctors, Neurologist Prof. Dr. Yasef Özsarfati, stated, "The breaking point your professor mentioned is this; while problems in the heart system were at the forefront, neurological problems have recently come to the fore. Therefore, the gradual worsening of the neurological condition constitutes a breaking point. Reflexes are gradually diminishing. Reflexes are diminishing both in examinations and in electrophysiological findings, and the balance EEG recordings have begun to show a state of unresponsiveness. In light of the findings of both the examination and auxiliary examinations, it can be said that there is a deterioration in neurological findings compared to the first days. We know that the deterioration in this patient is a brain involvement shaped by the lack of oxygen reaching the brain. Depending on that picture, the patient also has cerebral edema. The brain is swollen. This can be summarized in its clinical findings as a lack of reflexes and changes in the EEG. There is no such treatment for anoxic encephalopathy. Anoxic encephalopathy is a condition that is medically treated all over the world. Any surgical intervention for this is not a method applied in the world. (How long will it take to recover?) It is not possible to provide a time for this. One must be very cautiously optimistic, but it is very difficult to say that the criteria we have are getting better. (Is this the last stage before brain death?) There are no findings of brain death at the moment. We will only be able to answer this over time."

''NO PROGRESS IN AWAKENING REFLEXES''

Prof. Dr. Ertan Sağbaş also noted the following:

“When we reopened for revision on the third day of that surgery, we saw that the right side was contracting; for us, it was a very good thing in the early period that we did not expect. This did not progress. Currently, we have reached a certain level cardially, and now we are plateauing. That state of improvement did not continue. Because we are dependent on ECMO support. The heart is currently not at a level to maintain the body's circulation if we were to cut off ECMO support. Therefore, unfortunately, cardiac progress has remained at a certain level. (How does the neurological picture affect the heart?) The neurological picture affected the lungs. An event like pulmonary edema occurred. Within the last patient period, we also had a hemorrhage from the intubation tube, that is, bleeding; it stopped within two or three days. The lung was affected, but ECMO already takes the place of the lung and heart. Therefore, there is currently no problem with the body's oxygenation or the maintenance of circulation. Believe me, we cannot say anything about this patient regarding his neurology, heart, or lungs. We look at instantaneous data and regulate the treatment. One of our biggest fears is infection. We have protected him so well so far that there is currently no infection. We are changing antibiotics according to the situation, and we are taking positions immediately. We cannot say anything about the future, but we are continuing treatment intensively.

It has been 8 days since we stopped giving any sedative medication. Therefore, we are also waiting. There is no awakening, no progress in reflexes. We are trying to perform a miracle; we have been in this struggle since that first moment we received him with heart massage."
