Bülent Arınç's striking remarks on diploma: 'Those who think a conspiracy was set up are not unjustified'

Former 22nd Term TBMM Speaker Bülent Arınç made evaluations regarding the cancellation of the diploma of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu. Describing this decision as "wrong," Arınç said, "Those who think a conspiracy was set up are not wrong."

Arınç also made striking comments regarding politicians currently being held in detention. Stating that "it should be the norm for a metropolitan mayor to be tried without being detained," Arınç recalled the statements he made during the period when former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş was arrested, adding, "The point reached today is the point I defended years ago. Today, phone calls are being made to Demirtaş," he said.

SHARP REACTION TO ÖZGÜR ÖZEL'S 'JUNTA' REMARKS

Opposing CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's "junta" remarks, Arınç said, "These words targeting the President and the AK Party have no basis. This word is an accusation against civil administration and constitutes slander. We are people who have fought against real juntas. Such baseless expressions only harm the person speaking them," he said.

REACTION TO IMAMOĞLU'S FATHER'S CURSE

Addressing the curse shared on social media by Ekrem İmamoğlu's father, Hasan İmamoğlu, Arınç called for common sense, saying, "I couldn't believe my ears. It is very wrong for a person of his age to use such heavy words. Even during the Welfare Party (Refah Partisi) era, we stayed away from street reactions during closure decisions. Erbakan Hodja did not incite the masses to outrage."

"ARREST SHOULD BE A LAST RESORT FOR POLITICIANS"

Arguing that arrests targeting individuals with political identities should be a last resort, Arınç said, "Arrests should not be applied immediately to people who display a political stance. We are not talking about a murderer of 5 people here. One thing changes, everything changes," he stated.

IT IS A PERSONALIZED JUDICIAL PROCESS

Evaluating the judicial control decision applied to Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı, Arınç said, "If someone else had appeared before the prosecutor with the same expressions instead of ROK, they would not have been able to get out. This is a personalized judicial process," he said.

Criticizing the fact that names like Ayşe Barım and Halit Ergenç were called for questioning years later in the Gezi Park case, Arınç said, "This is a state of madness, a mental block. It is unacceptable to call people for questioning years later by saying 'You were there too'," he spoke.
