Changes coming to the Judicial Package: Erdoğan has given the order! Those crimes are excluded

A critical change is expected to be made today to the judicial package, which has begun to be discussed in the Parliamentary Justice Commission. The scope is being narrowed for certain crimes among the prisoners who were planned to be released within the scope of Covid-19 measures.

DISCOMFORT IN THE AKP

The fact that all prisoners, except those convicted of terrorism, would benefit from release under the scope of the Covid-19 regulation caused discomfort within the AKP. Following reactions from members of parliament and the public, the issue was brought to the Presidential agenda.

INSTRUCTIONS FROM ERDOĞAN

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a private meeting yesterday after the AKP Group Meeting with Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Göktaş, and AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler. The criticisms from members of parliament and the public were brought up during the meeting.

It was reported that Erdoğan gave the instruction, "Take these criticisms into account and make an amendment."

With the change to be made, it was stated that those in prison for crimes of violence against women and child abuse, among the prisoners planned to be released within the scope of Covid-19 measures, will not be able to benefit from the release.

"WE WILL MAKE THE CHANGE WITH A MOTION"

According to the report by Veli Toprak from Sözcü, an AKP member of parliament who is one of the sponsors of the legislative proposal, made the following statement:

"We will make the change with a motion in the commission today. We will keep violence against women and child abuse outside the scope."

15 ARTICLES ACCEPTED IN THE COMMISSION

According to the information obtained, the Parliamentary Justice Commission discussed and accepted 15 articles regarding the judicial package yesterday. The discussions on the proposal, which consists of a total of 38 articles, will continue today at 18:00.
