The 5 lieutenants who were dismissed following the incident at the National Defense University Military Academy graduation ceremony in August 2024 have filed a criminal complaint against Land Forces Commander Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.
The lieutenants, who were dismissed on grounds of indiscipline for chanting "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" after reciting the Officer's Oath, alleged that Bayraktaroğlu intervened in this process.
According to a report by Sözcü, the dismissed lieutenants filed a criminal complaint against Land Forces Commander Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu following the decision made against them by the High Disciplinary Board.
The criminal complaint stated, "The dismissal decision had been rejected by the High Disciplinary Board by a vote of seven to two. However, he stepped in and three members changed their votes." According to these allegations, it is claimed that the voting result in the board was changed due to Bayraktaroğlu's intervention.
According to information provided to T24 by the lieutenants' lawyers, it is alleged that Land Forces Commander Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu interfered with the vote at the High Disciplinary Board.
The lawyers requested that an indictment be prepared against Bayraktaroğlu and that the provisions of the Military Penal Code and the Turkish Penal Code be applied.
Meanwhile, it has been decided that the proceedings will be conducted behind closed doors. If the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Public Prosecutor's Office accepts the filing of the case, the path will be cleared for Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu to be tried at the Constitutional Court.
