DEM Party İmralı delegation members Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar, and Özgür Faik Erol from the Asrın Law Office traveled to İmralı yesterday to meet with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.
It was reported that the delegation met with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace on February 11, five days before this meeting with Öcalan. Following the meeting in question, a written statement regarding the İmralı contact is expected to be shared with the public later today.
Mithat Sancar, who was part of the İmralı delegation, participated in the "Konuşma Zamanı" (Time to Talk) program broadcast on İlke TV last night following the meeting. Responding to questions from Dilek Odabaş and Lokman Ergün on the program, Sancar provided details regarding the meeting with Öcalan.
‘INTRODUCTION TO INTEGRATION MEETING’
According to Sancar, Öcalan began the meeting with the words, "This meeting is an introduction to integration meeting." It was stated that Öcalan, who made a general assessment of the process, emphasized the democratic republic.
Mithat Sancar conveyed that Öcalan made the following assessments to the delegation:
"The construction of a democratic republic is a very important and very serious matter. Integration is only possible with a democratic republic. We are talking about building a new century that is long-lasting and far-reaching. We are talking about saving history, not just the day. And this cannot happen without the Kurds."
Sancar stated that Öcalan expressed that his conditions and facilities must be arranged for him to contribute to the process. In this context, it was reported that Öcalan drew attention to his theoretical and practical capacity and emphasized the importance of providing the necessary facilities for the process to move forward.
Stating that a new phase has been entered in the process, Sancar conveyed Öcalan's assessments as follows:
"It is not as if the first phase is being left behind, but this is now the second phase. Now we need to develop the architecture of the second phase. We are working on this."
