The statement that ignited new debates came from İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu. Speaking on a program he attended on Now TV, Dervişoğlu made notable assessments regarding the visits to İmralı.
Dervişoğlu, who reacted to the fact that representatives from the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party went to the Island within the scope of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission established in Parliament, criticized the process being conducted in secrecy.
SECRETLY CONDUCTED PROCESS CREATES DEBATE
Referring to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statement that an offer came from the AKP saying, "You come too, no footage will be taken, it might not be known who went," Dervişoğlu drew attention to the fact that the process was being hidden from the public.
Arguing that the secrecy is a "sign of a planned execution," Dervişoğlu emphasized that all developments should be shared with the public transparently.
Dervişoğlu stated, "The nation should have been informed before going there. Every process conducted with secrecy contains a plan."
Responding to questions regarding the talks held with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Dervişoğlu expressed his discomfort with the process. To the questions discussed in the public eye about whether Öcalan would be released, he replied, "This is the result of the step they want to take."
Implying that an attempt is being made to legitimize Öcalan through Parliament, Dervişoğlu said, "Those who could not bring Öcalan to Parliament that day have brought Parliament to his feet to create a ground for legitimacy."
RESPONSE TO BAHÇELİ
When reminded of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's words, "Let terrorism end, if necessary, let our end be the gallows," Dervişoğlu said that he does not advocate for anyone to be executed, but that he is waging a political struggle against steps that would harm Turkey.
Stating that terrorist organizations still pose a threat to Turkey, Dervişoğlu criticized the state for focusing only on Öcalan in terms of strategy formation, saying, "Are there no statesmen left in this country to determine policy?"
BOMBSHELL CLAIM FOR THE PROCESS
Dervişoğlu's most striking statement was his remark that there is opposition to the İmralı process not only from the İYİ Party but also from other parties.
Dervişoğlu used the following expressions:
"It is not just the İYİ Party members; I know that there are many friends within the Justice and Development Party and the Nationalist Movement Party who oppose this course of action. We have MP friends whom we know closely. They say that this course is not right and that they will not be able to account for this to the public."
