It has been revealed that the newborn gang billed the SSI for 2 billion 500 million liras over the last two years. This figure reaches 10 times the total billing amount of state hospitals.
Statements made by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Adnan Ertem at the TBMM Commission revealed the scale of the scandal.
Ertem said, "We learned about the developments regarding the newborn gang through the prosecutor's investigation. In this context, the licenses of 15 hospitals were revoked. Furthermore, we identified 2.5 billion liras worth of invoices that had not undergone inspection within two years."
PRIVATE HOSPITALS BREAK BILLING RECORD
Pointing out that private hospitals bill at astronomical levels compared to public hospitals, Ertem stated, "While a total of 200 million liras was paid to public hospitals in 2023, private hospitals billed more than 10 times that amount, totaling 2.5 billion liras, in two years. These invoices have not yet been inspected and no reconciliation has been reached," he said.
ATTENTION DRAWN TO ŞAFAK HOSPITALS
Serious allegations regarding Şafak Hospitals were discussed in the commission.
Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Adnan Ertem said, "Şafak Hospitals alone are a major problem. We currently have 189 ongoing lawsuits regarding these hospitals. Because the contract signed in 2018 remains valid due to court decisions, we are struggling to implement administrative sanctions. Additionally, since the hospitals have declared bankruptcy protection (konkordato), the effectiveness of current inspections is limited," he said.
It was stated that the SSI inspected Şafak Hospitals a total of 32 times, but effective sanctions could not be applied despite the inspections.
CHP MP Ali Karaoba said, "Does this many lawsuits and indifference stem from the trust placed in high-level bureaucrats? The fact that the President traveled to America with these hospital owners raises questions about the impartiality of the inspections," he said.
It was stated that although the operations of the Private Bağcılar Şafak Hospital were suspended, administrative procedures were blocked due to court decisions.
Ertem said, "We are facing 189 lawsuits, and it is becoming almost impossible to implement sanctions."
