A new claim has been made regarding Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been nominated as the CHP's presidential candidate and is being held at Marmara Prison in Silivri.
Journalist Yıldız Yazıcıoğlu, in a statement based on AKP sources, claimed that İmamoğlu would be prevented from competing in the upcoming elections.
Yazıcıoğlu, during a live broadcast on the Tele1 television channel, reported that striking assessments regarding İmamoğlu's situation are being made within AKP circles.
The journalist stated that, according to the information she obtained, İmamoğlu would not only remain in detention but would also be made a convict.
“HE WILL BE A CONVICT, HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER THE RACE”
Yazıcıoğlu stated that the impression formed within AKP circles is in this direction.
The journalist's words were recorded as follows:
“The impression in AK Party circles is that Ekrem İmamoğlu will be a convict in the upcoming election, beyond just being in detention. Although Demirtaş was in detention during the 2018 elections, he had the chance to compete. However, a verdict will be reached against İmamoğlu, and thus he will not be able to compete even from Silivri. In other words, they will not even grant İmamoğlu this chance.”
