The results of a new survey conducted by SONAR Research in 26 provinces have been released. In the survey, citizens were asked about demands for early elections and the operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) and Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. In its latest public opinion poll conducted in May 2025, SONAR Research shed light on political trends across Turkey and key issues on the agenda. The survey, titled "Turkey's Preferences," was conducted face-to-face with 2,341 people in 26 cities and contains significant findings ranging from expectations for an early election to support for political parties.
When asked, "Do you think an early general election should be held?", 57.4 percent of the public responded, "Yes, an early election should be held."
While 35.5 percent said, "No, an early election should not be held," 7.1 percent responded that they had "No opinion" on the matter.
CHP WIDENS THE GAP
The survey also asked voters, "If a general election were held today, which party would you vote for?" The results after the distribution of undecided voters are as follows:
CHP: 36.8%
AKP: 30.8%
The poll also measured public perception regarding the investigations launched into Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and certain CHP-run municipalities.
To the question, "Do you think the audits and investigations conducted into municipalities belonging to the ruling party and the opposition are equal and fair?":
60.5 percent: "No, they are being conducted in a biased manner"
25.8 percent: "Yes, they are being conducted in an equal and fair manner"
The remainder stated they were undecided.
The survey also evaluated whether events such as the arrest of Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ were perceived by citizens as an element of political pressure. Although details were not disclosed, the general trend indicating that the investigations are not considered fair is noteworthy.
