Message from Özgür Özel on the 'Party Congress'! He announced his roadmap: 'If a decision of absolute nullity is issued...'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced that they will hold their parliamentary group meeting in Istanbul on July 1, marking the 100th day of the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Özel stated, "We will evaluate the 100 days of detention from a legal, political, and social perspective. Later in the evening, we will all go to Saraçhane together and hold a protest."

Speaking to Birgün, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said that they will continue the "Standing Up for the National Will" rallies they initiated following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Stating, "We are bringing both the injustice done to İmamoğlu and the other problems of the country to the agenda. We will continue on our path without letting the lawlessness against İmamoğlu be forgotten, but also by talking about fuel price hikes and the problems of farmers," Özel also announced the major protest to be held in Saraçhane on July 1. The CHP leader noted the following:

"On Tuesday, July 1, on the 100th day of İmamoğlu's detention, we will be in Istanbul at the time of the group meeting. We will evaluate the 100 days of detention from a legal, political, and social perspective. Later in the evening, we will all go to Saraçhane together and hold a protest. On the other hand, we will continue to support everyone who is fighting for their rights."

CONGRESS DEBATE

Speaking about the cancellation lawsuit regarding the CHP congress to be heard on June 30 and the attitude of former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu during the process, Özel said:

“I have no concerns about June 30. It is a process where the YSK (Supreme Election Council) decision is already final and the deadline for appeal to the Constitutional Court has passed. We are in a process that is not result-oriented but process-oriented, aimed at causing debate within the party. I have always tried to stay out of these debates.

At the congress, we reached the highest number of votes any chairman has received in CHP history. For the first time, a key list prepared by a chairman passed without being breached since the time of İsmet Paşa. In the extraordinary congress, the delegate will stood behind it as well. The entire organization agreed that the party should not be involved in such a debate during this process.

"ONE MUST NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP"

Considering that our poll numbers dropped when there were internal party debates in the past, they tried to drag the party into this debate. We, however, insisted on choosing to stay out of the process. Our friends, in good faith, wanted Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to also make a statement that would end the debates.

I have no concerns about June 30 or what will happen afterward. But suppose something like that (a decision of absolute nullity) happens, let no one expect us to set aside the trust the voters have placed in us. Just as we stood up for Saraçhane as of March 19, we will also stand up for our party.

Of course, we are following the process carefully, but we will not drown in this agenda while there are so many economic problems in Turkey. I want to open the ledger of the future, while some want to open old ledgers. What is happening is a major trap set for the CHP and Turkey. One must not fall into this trap.”
