The AKP's Extended Provincial Heads Meeting was held in Ankara on Monday, May 27. Speaking at the meeting, President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that they have taken concrete steps regarding the new constitution efforts that have been on Turkey's agenda for a long time.
Stating that the current 1982 Constitution still reflects the mentality of the coup era, Erdoğan said, "The '82 Constitution carries the residues of the coup era. As of yesterday, I have assigned 10 of my legal expert colleagues, and now these legal experts will begin their work. With this effort, we will hopefully carry out the preparation work for a new constitution."
THE TEAM HAS BEEN REVEALED
According to information in the Sabah newspaper, the names that will be part of the constitutional working commission assigned by Erdoğan have also been clarified. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz is expected to chair the commission.
