Following the March 31, 2024 local elections in Turkey, the appointment of trustees, particularly to opposition municipalities, continues to remain on the agenda.
With the victory achieved by the CHP, the AKP's vote share fell to 35.48 percent for the first time in history, dropping it to the position of the second party.

According to an article by Nuray Babacan from Nefes, the omnibus bill planned to be submitted to the TBMM in the spring months will not only include regulations in the economic sphere but also changes regarding agricultural lands and the powers of municipalities.
It is alleged that this law will introduce regulations specifically concerning certain agricultural lands and that the powers of municipalities in this area may be restricted.
It is stated that provisions prepared specifically to restrict the activities of opposition municipalities are on the agenda.
