While the annulment lawsuit filed regarding the 38th Ordinary Convention held by the Republican People's Party (CHP) on November 4-5, 2023, has not yet concluded, debates over irregularities at the convention continue.

Cem Küçük, a columnist for the Türkiye newspaper known for his proximity to the government, made a striking claim, asserting that the court is very close to issuing a ruling of "absolute invalidity" (mutlak butlan).

WHAT IS AN ABSOLUTE INVALIDITY RULING?

Absolute invalidity means that a legal transaction is void and invalid from the very beginning. This situation occurs because the transaction, despite having its constituent elements, violates the mandatory provisions of the law.

In a television broadcast he attended, Cem Küçük alleged that there were serious irregularities in the file regarding the convention process and stated the following:

“The court has now reached a decision, and it looks like it will issue an absolute invalidity ruling here. I think the allegations are true. In late 2023, 4-5 people on Twitter said, 'They gave me a vacation, they gave me money.' There were people who received tablets and phones at that time. It is not in the thousands, but money circulated involving 30-40 people. These allegations will also be included in the indictment.”

HEARING POSTPONED TO JUNE 30

The first hearing in the annulment lawsuit filed regarding the convention was held in recent weeks, but the hearing for the final verdict on the merits of the case was postponed to June 30, 2025.

“KILIÇDAROĞLU COULD RETURN”

Journalist İsmail Saymaz also wrote recently that a strong expectation has formed in the corridors of Ankara, stating that an "absolute invalidity" ruling from the court could bring Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu back to the party leadership.

According to Saymaz, if this possibility materializes, Kılıçdaroğlu could temporarily return to the head of the CHP, saying, "Should the party be left without an owner?"

KILIÇDAROĞLU BROKE HIS SILENCE

Breaking his silence in the shadow of the debates, former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu responded implicitly to the accusations directed at him in a statement on his social media account, using the following expressions:

“Some politicians who once stood by my side for the sake of their political futures, and who once considered walking with me a source of pride, have now drifted to other channels and joined this chorus. They are all demanding in unison that I speak on a subject about which I have no information and in which I have had no involvement.”
