Former AKP Mayor of Ağrı, Savcı Sayan, made significant statements regarding the presidential election. In light of Turkey's current political landscape and global developments, Sayan argued that President Erdoğan should remain in office for one more term.
Sayan stated that opposition parties should unite around President Erdoğan and adopt a common stance.
In his remarks on the Superhaber YouTube channel, Savcı Sayan noted that while it is natural for parties to be represented in Parliament according to their vote shares, it is important to reach a common consensus on the presidency.
Stating that "A new President could remain like an intern and harm the country," Sayan pointed out that an experienced leader would be more beneficial for Turkey.
Sayan used the following expressions:
"Governing Turkey with an intern President, moving forward with a leader who has not yet learned, could harm Turkey amidst this global turmoil. We need our President, who is more experienced, has 20 years of experience, and can analyze the country's future well."
Savcı Sayan proposed that a constitutional amendment be made on the condition that the presidential system is preserved and that President Erdoğan be re-elected for a one-time 7-year term.
Sayan also issued a call to opposition parties, stating the following:
"If it were up to me, Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu and other parties should unite and, provided that this election is for 7 years and the President is elected by Parliament, and on the condition that the presidential system remains the same, they should declare our President as the President of the Republic of Turkey for 7 years as soon as possible, with his hand greatly strengthened."
