DEM Party Istanbul MP and Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Sırrı Süreyya Önder made evaluations regarding the terrorist organization PKK's statement, "We will not engage in any attacks as long as there is no attack against us."
Stating that they were expecting this announcement, Önder expressed that meetings involving state officials and politicians will be held in the coming period.
ÖNDER GIVES A TIMELINE
Emphasizing that the process has reached an important stage, Önder said, "We have now left the difficult part of the issue behind." Stating that the talks will gain momentum starting next week, Önder used the expressions, "A series of meetings will be held with the participation of state officials and politicians. We hope that the process will become clear within the next three months."
WAS A VIDEO MESSAGE SENT?
Responding to journalists' question, "Was a video message from Abdullah Öcalan sent to Qandil?", Önder said, "A recording was made in Imralı, but I do not know whether it was sent or not."
To the question of how the PKK's disarmament process will proceed in practice, Önder gave the following response: "It is not possible to say anything definitive yet. However, what is important is the will and determination put forward. Everything else can be arranged."
Regarding the question of how the subsequent process will reflect on the region and Turkish politics, Önder made the assessment, "If we, as Turkey, first clarify our own agenda, democratic moves will follow one after another and create an effect that will change the balances in the region."
