Striking claim from AKP corridors: How was Erdoğan convinced of the İmamoğlu operation? He is a shadow of his former self!

As protests continue nationwide following the arrest of 48 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, striking claims have emerged from AKP corridors regarding how this process was shaped.

Nefes newspaper columnist Nuray Babacan shared insider information she received regarding how President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was convinced to launch this operation. According to Babacan, Erdoğan was persuaded that the operation would provide a political advantage to the AKP and that the public could be convinced.

''AKP MANAGEMENT SEEMS TO HAVE LOST ITS REFLEXES''

In her column on the subject, Babacan stated the following:

"The President, based on the information conveyed to him, was led to believe that the process would benefit the AKP and that public opinion could be persuaded. However, when looking at the cost of these events to the ruling party, it is clear that the party is rapidly moving away from accurately reading the pulse of society."

Stating that the AKP was able to analyze public reaction more accurately in the past but has lost this ability in recent times, Babacan made the following assessment:

"The party management, which was claimed to have very good intuition on this matter in the past, seems to have completely lost its reflexes. The days when Erdoğan could read the streets well and quickly adjust his position according to social reactions seem to be behind him."

MAJOR CHANGE IN THE LAST 5 YEARS

Babacan argued that the AKP management has lost its ability to keep a finger on the pulse of society and change positions when necessary, especially over the last 5 years, including during the economic crisis, and noted the following:

"Especially in the last 5 years, a problem has emerged in failing to correctly analyze society's expectations and reactions on many issues, primarily the economic crisis. This situation shows that there is a serious disconnect in political decision-making processes."
