Significant developments have occurred in the 38th Ordinary Convention lawsuit, which has escalated intra-party tension within the CHP. In the third hearing of the lawsuit filed by former Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş on the grounds that the convention was "contrary to procedure," the parties appeared before the judge once again.
Lütfü Savaş's lawyer, Tolga Üregen, requested both the annulment of the convention and the interim removal of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel from office during the hearing.
CLAIM OF "BEING CONDUCTED THROUGH FRAUD AGAINST THE LAW"
Arguing that the convention lacked a legal basis, lawyer Üregen stated the following:
"The convention is null and void. The elective convention on April 6 was called by an unauthorized chairman. This convention was conducted by resorting to fraud against the law and is flawed."
Üregen argued that the election process proceeded unlawfully and used the term "illegitimate chairman" for Özgür Özel. In his statement, he claimed that Özel had organized a "staged" process to save himself.
CALL FOR "KILIÇDAROĞLU TO RETURN TO DUTY"
Üregen suggested that former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu should return to party management to replace the person removed from office as a precautionary measure. This demand caused mixed reactions among the CHP base following the case.
Speaking in the later parts of the hearing, lawyer Üregen clarified a question that had been eagerly awaited by the public: "We have no request for a trustee," he said.
Furthermore, rejecting the idea that the case should be viewed in connection with a criminal investigation, Üregen stated that there was no need to wait for the criminal case, adding, "We do not want the CHP to be debated in court corridors. However, there is a clear cloud of suspicion. This case is not political; it is entirely a legal case."
