Tensions rise in Future Party following resignations: Attack on Davutoğlu! He called the AKP his 'Father's Hearth'
Following the recent parliamentary resignations in the Future Party, harsh criticisms have been directed at the party leadership and Ahmet Davutoğlu. İsa Mesih Şahin stated that the party has squandered its opportunity for growth and is conducting politics disconnected from the streets.

The recent resignations of members of parliament from the Future Party have caused a major stir in politics. On July 19, Istanbul MPs Selim Temurci and İsa Mesih Şahin resigned from the party they helped found. This development has brought the internal tension within the party to light. It was also noted that the party's number of seats in parliament has dropped to four since the election.
HEAVY CRITICISM OF THE LEADERSHIP FROM İsa Mesih ŞAHİN
Speaking for the first time since his resignation, İsa Mesih Şahin emphasized that the party missed its opportunity to grow and that its politics were disconnected from the public. "Those who did not take the sincere objections of the MPs into account are the ones who have carried out an operation against this party," Şahin said, attacking both the party leadership and Ahmet Davutoğlu. Şahin also referred to the AKP as his "family home" and criticized the current state of his party.
Highlights from İsa Mesih Şahin's speech are as follows:
Our concern is not to fight. Otherwise, if it comes to fighting, we are very good at it. However, now is not the time for fighting. Therefore, we will not fight. We will not be in a psychology of settling scores with the past either.
"OUR OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH WAS SQUANDERED"
We founded the Future Party with great hopes. During its founding period, the Future Party could have found a foothold in Turkey. There was such an opportunity, but unfortunately, this opportunity was missed over time. We had an opportunity for growth, but unfortunately, it was squandered.
The Future Party entered the Grand National Assembly of Turkey with 10 MPs and gave up its name twice in the Grand National Assembly. First, in the group alliance it formed with the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi), and second, in the New Path (Yeni Yol) alliance in January. I am a person who told the Chairman in front of everyone, "I am signing this reluctantly."
We raised these concerns with the reflex to protect the Future Party's name and identity, and our concerns proved to be justified over time. I served as a group deputy chairman for a year and a half. We brought every important issue in Turkey to parliament, but when you appear on screen, the Felicity Party identity is written under your name. Eight out of the 10 Future Party MPs were against the New Path Group.
"POLITICS CANNOT BE CONDUCTED DISCONNECTED FROM THE STREETS"
Of course, there were issues we objected to. Politics cannot be conducted disconnected from the streets. I come from a background of district presidency and provincial presidency. Politics is done with the realities of the street. That is, you must both put the problems of the street on the agenda and be able to offer solutions for them. If you get bogged down in theoretical politics while there are problems on the street, you cannot find a response on the street.
"THOSE WHO DID NOT TAKE THE MPS' OBJECTIONS INTO ACCOUNT HAVE CARRIED OUT AN OPERATION AGAINST THIS PARTY"
On April 15, 2025, I submitted a report. This report describes the processes the party has gone through, and as a solution proposal, we told our chairman that we are here and we want to protect our party. Come on, let's get this party back on its feet together. Let's take steps as if we are re-founding this party. We have suggestions here, and this report was never taken into account. That is the issue. Therefore, at the point we have reached, neither the consideration of this report, nor the consideration of our objections, nor the failure of the chairman or the headquarters administrators to take genuine steps regarding the future of the Future Party has brought us to this point. So, there is no operation or anything like that. If an operation is being carried out, I say it clearly: those who do not take these reports into account, who do not take the objections into account, and who do not take the sincere objections of the MPs into account, have carried out an operation against this party.
"I THOUGHT IT WAS A TROLL ACCOUNT"
(Regarding the "Now let the AK Party think" video shared by the official Future Party account)
When I saw this video, I thought it was a troll account. I tried to verify it again. At the very moment we lost our 11 forest workers, look, the news had just broken. It was not something I could imagine that someone's ambitions would come before reason while experiencing this pain. Therefore, I even checked to see if a troll account was sharing it. Is there not a single friend among them to say, "Why are we doing something like this?" Truly, even this shows that the Future Party has lost its reflexes to be a party. I wish my friends success in this impasse. I cannot say anything else.
"THE AK PARTY IS OUR FAMILY HOME"
Yes, the AK Party is our family home. But let me say something more important than that; as someone who started politics in my university years, the AK Party is also my youth home. Therefore, I see it as a normal thing for these to come to mind.
We have not made a decision yet. Let me state this. We referred to that in the text, in the resignation text as well. We will decide together with our fellow travelers.
