The personnel changes that took place at Sözcü TV yesterday morning have caused a wide stir in the media agenda. Editor-in-Chief Özgür Çakmakçı has departed, and 14 people, ranging from news department staff to on-air personalities, have been dismissed.
According to information reported by MedyaRadar, the background of this change involves the appointment of journalist and author Yılmaz Özdil to the position of President of the Sözcü Media Group, which encompasses the Sözcü and Korkusuz newspapers as well as Sözcü TV. It has been suggested that a high-level restructuring process has begun at the channel following this development.
Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP İstanbul Provincial Presidency, evaluated the personnel changes at Sözcü TV via his social media account. Stating that he views the management change as a positive step, Tekin used the following expressions:
“We hope that Sözcü TV, which has long remained in the shadow of a one-sided broadcasting approach, will regain its quality of being the true voice of the people.”
“I BELIEVE THE NEW MANAGEMENT WILL FOLLOW A DEMOCRATIC LINE”
Gürsel Tekin emphasized his belief that with the arrival of Yılmaz Özdil and the new Editor-in-Chief of Sözcü TV, İpek Özbey, a more impartial and pluralistic broadcasting approach will prevail. He included the following statements in his post:
“I believe that the new management will act with an understanding that respects personal rights, considers everyone's right to speak, avoids one-sided broadcasting, and keeps democratic communication channels open.”
