AKP member Şamil Tayyar claimed that his party is planning to hold a new constitutional referendum in the autumn of 2026.
Stating that he was sharing this as information, Tayyar said, "If the solution process reaches a conclusion and a common consensus text emerges, the possibility of a referendum will increase, regardless of whether the AKP exceeds the 400-deputy threshold."
REFERENDUM DATE AND ELECTION PLANS
Tayyar stated that the referendum was initially envisioned to be held in the autumn of 2026, but that it could also shift to the spring of 2027.
Furthermore, noting that the election calendar would be shaped depending on the outcome of the referendum, Tayyar said, "If the referendum is accepted with a high vote, an early election can be expected in the autumn of 2027."
