Ugly remarks from Gökçek and Birinci toward Dilek İmamoğlu! She did not remain silent, she reacted: 'She is the daughter of a family from Trabzon...'
Following the protests that began after the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the expressions used by former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek and AKP member Mücahit Birinci regarding Dilek İmamoğlu drew significant backlash. Journalist Fatih Altaylı lashed out at both individuals with harsh words and also strongly criticized their insults directed at President Erdoğan.

As the protests that began following the detention of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu continue, some slogans and political commentary have lowered the level of discourse significantly, while reactions have grown like an avalanche. Some of those among the protesters in Saraçhane had hurled insults at President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his family, which subsequently led to detentions.
THEY SHARED, THEN DELETED
Former ABB Mayor Melih Gökçek and AKP member Mücahit Birinci had targeted the wife of İBB Mayor İmamoğlu, along with CHP leader Özgür Özel. Following the backlash, both individuals deleted their posts, and Birinci also issued an apology.
HARSH REACTION FROM FATİH ALTAYLI
While the events in question were met with reactions from everyone, regardless of their political stance, a very harsh reaction also came from journalist Fatih Altaylı.
Evaluating the situation on his YouTube channel, Altaylı said the following:
"INSULTS TO ERDOĞAN AND HIS FAMILY; DISGRACEFUL, INDECENT, IMMORAL"
"Let me put it this way: first of all, whether it is in a square or anywhere else, you cannot curse at a president, let alone a president, you cannot curse at anyone's family. In fact, you shouldn't curse at anyone, but unfortunately, on social media and such, everyone is attacking each other. I mean, you may not like the people governing a country, you may criticize them, you may be angry, and when you are very angry, words that might get you into trouble might slip out of your mouth,
but cursing at someone, especially cursing at their family, their spouse, their children, has no acceptable side. It is not acceptable; it is a disgrace, it is indecent, it is immoral.
"SOME KIDS, SOME SCUM..."
But let no one take this the wrong way. I am not saying this to soften the issue. What they did is a disgrace. That disgrace remains there. We don't know who did it. Some kids, some scum... You hold them accountable through the judiciary. You file a lawsuit against them, you file an insult lawsuit, you find them, you round them up, and so on.
"THE MAN CALLED MELİH GÖKÇEK IS APPROACHING 80..."
In response to this; you cannot say such things about the spouse of another politician, someone you see as your rival... Someone you see as the opposing side in this incident. My brother, look, this man called Melih Gökçek is a man approaching 80. I mean, the fact that he dyes his hair shouldn't make you think he is a young man. He is about 77-78 years old, I think.
"THEY DON'T TAKE THAT KIND OF NONSENSE"
There is such a thing as shame. A person should have some decency. You are a politician, forget being a politician, you are a human being. For someone to get up and say such a thing to someone's wife... I mean, I can't say what I want to say, but if he dares, let him say it... I mean, Ekrem İmamoğlu would go crazy... And Dilek İmamoğlu is the daughter of a Trabzon family, they don't take that kind of nonsense.
"SHE IS A WELL-MANNERED WOMAN, OTHERWISE..."
I mean, Dilek İmamoğlu is a well-mannered woman, she didn't even come out and engage with them. I mean, she could have cursed them out, let me tell you. Because that is the response to this, that is the response to this indecency.
"MÜCAHİT BİRİNCİ, YOUR EARS SHOULD HEAR WHAT COMES OUT OF YOUR MOUTH"
Mücahit Birinci also said something and then apologized. Mücahit Birinci, your ears should hear what comes out of your mouth. Can such a thing be said to someone? Dilek İmamoğlu will definitely file a lawsuit against them anyway.
This disgrace is not something that can be accepted, but look at the point politicians have reached. Has power made you this crazy, or has the feeling of sucking up to someone made you this crazy? But this is the level."
The thing I am curious about is this: both of them, I mean, we know Melih Gökçek has a wife, Nevin Hanım, did she not say to Melih at home, "Melih, get a grip on yourself, son, are you crazy? Melih, does this suit you? Is this the man I married? Look, if you don't apologize, I will pack up and leave this house"?
"THEIR BAD SIDE IS ALSO FIERCE, LET ME TELL YOU"
Such a thing cannot be. Because such an insult cannot be directed at a woman. Let him not forget that this woman is a Black Sea woman. I mean, their bad side is also fierce, let me tell you. Although, Mücahit is also from Rize. I don't know how that works, but at least I think he should know such customs and traditions.
Politics is gradually becoming this level of baseness... I mean, as I always say, underdevelopment is a whole. Indecency is also a whole. The country is generally heading downwards like this."
