CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydınmade statements regarding the March 31 local election results in a post on his X account.

In his post, Gökhan Günaydın addressed the claims that “AKP voters did not go to the polls to punish their party, and this is a temporary situation.”

“THE NUMBER OF CHP VOTERS WHO DID NOT GO TO THE POLLS IS 10 POINTS HIGHER THAN AKP VOTERS”

Günaydın shared the results of a study on citizens who did not vote in the election and a video of a street interview with the following words:

“A myth was created after the elections: 'AKP voters did not go to the polls to punish their party, and this is a temporary situation.' The research and video I attached to my post reveal the opposite; 1- The number of CHP voters who did not go to the polls is 10 points higher than AKP voters. 2- AKP voters who realized what they have been living through for 20 years have voted for the CHP (or other opposition parties). Along with the AKP, parties that carry water for the AKP's mill, or are believed to do so, have also lost significant votes.”

“CITIZENS HOPE TO SEE THE WAY OUT IN THE CHP”

Undoubtedly, while the research presents data, the video reflects a subjective opinion. However, the frequency with which we encountered similar reactions on the street during the election campaign reveals that the AKP base has broken away from its party in masses, reacting to the injustice and economic oppression that has been going on for 20 years; moreover, as opposed to what is claimed, this reaction is directed not only at the party but primarily at Erdoğan. The promises of the AKP Chairman regarding the future have zero impact and are not found credible. Citizens hope to see the way out in the CHP.

“NO ONE SHOULD FALL INTO THE 1989-1994 SYNDROME”

March 31, 2024, which brought the joy of life back to the country after the elections that almost crushed our hopes 10 months ago, has further increased our responsibility. No one should fall into the 1989-1994 syndrome. In addition to those continuing, our municipalities that joined the CHP family in 2019 have managed the pandemic and economic crisis period with great success and have established a strong solidarity with the citizens. Our municipalities that joined the caravan in 2024 will demonstrate the same effectiveness in coordination. Following the charter amendment, the 'Century-Old Plane Tree' (CHP), with its staff and program that will solve the country's problems, will illuminate the future of our country and our people with a sense of responsibility and duty.”
