Governor's Office announces: Investigation launched into DEM Party congress

An investigation has been launched into the DEM Party Youth Assembly's 1st Ordinary Congress. Detention warrants have been issued for some party members.

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has been placed under investigation regarding its 1st Ordinary Youth Assembly Congress in Diyarbakır, on charges of "praising crime and criminals" and "terrorist propaganda." The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated the investigation and issued detention warrants for several party members.

"ARREST PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT"

Minister Tunç shared the following statement on his X account regarding the matter:

"Regarding the meeting organized by the DEM Party in Diyarbakır on 24.12.2023 under the name '1st Ordinary Youth Assembly Congress,' the necessary judicial investigation has been initiated by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the suspects for the crimes of 'praising crime and criminals' and 'making terrorist organization propaganda,' and detention instructions have been issued. Arrest procedures have also been carried out for some of the suspects. The judicial investigation is ongoing."

GOVERNOR'S OFFICE ISSUED A STATEMENT

42 suspects identified as having committed the crimes of 'praising crime and criminals' and 'making terrorist organization propaganda' at the congress organized by the DEM Party in Diyarbakır have been detained. In a statement issued by the Governor's Office regarding the subject, it was stated: "42 individuals who acted unlawfully, threw stones at the police, and resisted during the Party Youth Assembly 1st Ordinary Congress organized by the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party Provincial Presidency in our province on December 24, 2023, have been detained. A judicial investigation has been launched against the suspects by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Respectfully announced to the public."
